Day 10- Friday Harbor
We left Oak Harbor and loaded the bus to get to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island by riding on the Anacortes ferry. We all packed an overnight bag and left all of it at our hotel for the night. The ringers enjoyed the ride as we went out into the ocean, and then everyone got lunch.
Then the excitement began, as we took a boat ride on the Odyssey to see the whales. We ended up seeing two humpback whales as they sent out air through their blow holes and then came up for air. We also learned a bit about the history of the islands we passed and saw seals resting on the beaches. We even saw some deer on an island which was originally purchased and was used for hunting, but the business failed and now the animals are all feral. After seeing the whales we got dinner and then returned to the hotel for swimming and relaxation. It was a fun day!

Yesterday we took the ferry to Friday Harbor and then went whale watching! We ended up seeing hunchback whales, which are less common to see in the area. I guess it is more likely to see orcas when whale watching there, but surprisingly we didn't see any. After whale watching we got to explore the island until we had to be in our hotel rooms. It was really fun to have free reign over pretty much the whole island within reason. We were told by a past ringer who came to one of our concerts to find out what the pig war was whilst on the island, so we did (I will leave it up to you to learn more about it yourself, if you please). The weather was nice and cool without it being insanely freezing, which was really great. In conclusion, Friday Harbor was awesome, and I'd totally recommend going if any of this sounds fun to you!

This morning we had some time to explore the town of Friday Harbor. After breakfast at the hotel provided by chaperones, the ringers were sent out in groups with ideas of things to do. Many of the ringers visited The Whale Museum to learn more about the whales. Ringers went in small groups while some went shopping, we ate lunch, and generally explored the town. In the afternoon we rode the ferry again to get to Anacortes where we prepared for our next concert at Anacortes UMC.

Today we had a completely empty morning in Friday Harbor. We started it with a small breakfast at the hotel with stuff that the chaperones bought at the store. We then broke into groups and were allowed to explore the small town. We went to many small shops and restaurants and bought souvenirs. Then we went to a deli for lunch and got sandwiches. We went back to the hotel and walked back to the ferry and took it to Anacortes. We got back on the bus and drove to the church we were performing at. It was a pretty laid back day and it was nice to not have anything planned.
